The season for constant clamor in the political marketplace has arrived and is near its end, vying for the time, talent, and treasure of its customers, the voting public.  Attendant with the season comes its own style of ads, promises, product comparisons and sales events. 

Many seeking political office - the privilege of being our marketplace choices - also seek to convey that they have all the answers for the issues that concern us, solutions for the challenges that we face in our interactions and well laid plans for the direction of our increasingly hard earned treasure.

After Election Day, it will be over and we’ll return to our families, work-dramas and daily concerns and repeat the process all over next election season. However, all purchased products lose their luster over time.  In some cases they may work well. Often, however, we find that our product doesn’t work as well as it used to – or worse, it was not as advertised.  Unfortunately, in the political market place, there are no money back guarantees.  Quite the contrary in fact, the only guarantee we have currently is that what we pay is always going in one direction.  Sure, there may be some returns in the way of rebates, refunds and subsidies, but the key word here is, guarantee.  More on that later.

My name is Paul Venable and I am a WRITE-IN candidate for Governor of Idaho. I am a member of The Constitution Party of Idaho and its former chairman for seven years and am also the endorsed candidate of the party.  I am not otherwise as credentialed as the current mainstream candidates and consider myself a common citizen of little consequence.  I am an American by birth and an Idahoan by choice.  I am no more or less than any of the other candidates, but I see something that they either don’t see or are not telling you. I think you see it to, but have just not quite put your finger on it.

You’ve probably heard about the test that’s given to someone when they are being considered for release from the insane asylum. They are given a mop, taken into a room where a sink is overflowing and instructed to clean up the mess.  If their action is to turn off the faucet, that individual is ready for release into the real world. If, however, that individual starts mopping up the water without recognizing the source of the problem, the problem will never, ever get solved. Will it?

Government is a well oiled machine and like a teenage boy, it will ever be engaged in some activity.  As imperative as it is to teach our boys and direct them aright, so it is that we must re-purpose or redirect this tool.  In the last several decades, it's exponential growth has increased it's power to effect our lives.  What we may not have considered before is that we can use the power of government to return power to people - to Idaho Citizens and families. 

Election Day is upon us.  The sink is overflowing, and we’ve got the mop.  If a definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, then whether the Democrat, or the Republican or the Libertarian wins is irrelevant.  It’s irrelevant if the people, you and I, lose after every election.  The sink is overflowing, the mess is getting deeper and we’ll eventually we’ll need a lot of people with mops to clean house. But first, we need to turn off the faucet.

It's Primary Election Day in Idaho!

I have been away from the political arena for a while and like many of you, have limited time and resources for anything but the most important matters these days. I consider this correspondence one of those matters. I want to thank you for considering my messages in the past and pray that you will take a few moments to consider a Primary Election message and I ask the indulgence of our friends who may not be directly effected by this communication.

There have not been many times that I have not considered a wide slate of mainstream party candidates as a choice between the lesser of two evils. This is one of those times.

Idaho Legislative District 1

If you are a member of the Constitution Party in Idaho's Legislative District 1, you should be aware that for the first time in the history of the party in Idaho, there is a primary contest. Idaho Legislative District 9

If you are a Republican and vote in Idaho Legislative District 9, there is a particular race that needs your attention and immediate assistance. Senator Monte Pearce is being challenged by what seems an orchestrated effort far beyond the boundaries and interests of the district. Senator Pearce often stands up to the advances of statism at the Capitol and is often willing to stand alone. I could spend quite a bit of time elaborate his conservative record, but he is getting a greater compliment from his opponent than I can share. Let me explain.

What you need to know now, is that his opponent, Abby Lee, is being supported by elements that appear to be anything but supporters of Idaho conservative values, and if that is the case, who does she, and who will she really represent? Please find two fliers attached to this message. One of them is your recommended voting guide for Idaho Legislative District 9. The other is a fact check on Candidate Abby Lee. On Saturday, I attended a candidate forum for the six Republicans running for Idaho state executive positions. As I am acquainted with most of these candidates and for the ones that are new to me, I recognize them as sincere in their efforts to advance the cause of Liberty. While I was chairman of The Constitution Party of Idaho and even now as Chairman Emeritus, I have always maintained this position on the mainstream political parties, “How does it ever make a difference if the Republican wins, or the Democrat wins if the People lose as a result of every election?” You cannot deny that after decades of suffering from the two-party monopoly that year after year, we are continually less better off. However, after attending this event, I can say to my Republican friends, you have the opportunity to prove me wrong... please!

[The following is an address given on the steps of the Idaho Capitol on Constitution Day, 17 September 2012, the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution for the united States.  Because this was written as a spoken address, the emphases have been retained as originally prepared.]

A republic, ma’am, if you can keep it.” So answered Benjamin Franklin when asked at the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention, “Well, Doctor, what have we got – a republic or a monarchy?”i

My fellow Citizens of these united States, we have -

A Republic, if WE can keep it!

The Constitution was born of necessity in the most difficult of circumstances. Within a decade of Revolutionary War victory, young America was facing a stagnant economy, with public debt at record levels and inflation out of control. Foreign powers were watching like vultures, hoping to carve up the lands of the struggling nation.

Within four years of adopting the Constitution, however, George Washington wrote to David Humphrey, and said,

"Tranquility reigns among the people, with that disposition towards the general government, which is likely to preserve it.... Our public credit stands on that high ground which three years ago it would have been considered a species of madness to have foreseen.”ii

So yet today, as the pillars of finance fold one by one and the only thing certain about the economy is
uncertainty …

… the Constitution has the solution;

As we face challenging questions of war…

… the Constitution has the solution;

As we observe with wonder and alarm the disintegration of our Liberty…

… the Constitution, our STANDARD of Liberty, IS the solution.

But these are not the real issues and questions for today – if we truly understand that the solutions for them, and others we may face, have been prepared beforehand by the wisdom of earlier years. Here are the urgent questions, we must consider instead

CAN we, SHOULD we - and WILL we keep the Republic? ...are the questions that face us right now!

Can we keep the Republic? Now that is a question for today!

The good news is, yes we can, if we comprehend upon what it is based.

Can we keep the Constitution, the foundation of our Republic and thereby preserve both?

We can keep it, if we know it and understand it. The Constitution, in just enough pages to read in one sitting, teaches us that it was not designed to rule the citizens, but to regulate and limit federal authority. The alternative to this knowledge is ignorance of the powers inherent in the people – and in the several states… and our powers of which we are ignorant are no powers at all. Like the man who sold his acres of diamonds to seek riches elsewhere, someone else may inherit the wealth that should be ours if we would only, but look.

We can keep it, if we apply and enforce it. If our public servants, elected or appointed, perform behaviors out of step with our STANDARD OF LIBERTY, then we the people have the obligation to educate them – or the duty to remove them… but our powers unenforced are like no powers at all. A toothless lion may have a slow and painful death, unless he is quickly and mercifully eaten beforehand.

It was Thomas Jefferson who said,

Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories.”iii

Let the people then, apply the Constitution and enforce it, for in its design our Founding Fathers conceived of a people with power, even a Nation of Kings.

Should we keep the republic? Now that is a question for today!

Is it that maybe the Constitution is flexible or has outlived its time? If so, then we have outlived our liberty, for as the Constitution was constructed to limit the power of the federal government, who, shall we ask, is to govern the people. You know and I know, it must be We the People, who govern ourselves.

If we are willing to stretch the standard to fit the changing times, then are we any more fit for the standard? For those who will not master themselves must have masters of others.

It appears, then, that as the nation is departing from the Ten Commandments, we are at the same time losing as a people, the Ten Amendments.

It was John Adams who said,

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. The Constitution was designed only for a moral and religious people, it is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.”iv

The Declaration of Independence is no less serviceable in the cause of liberty and is the spirit of the Constitution. The Declaration tells us why, the Constitution shows us how. Let the people then remember the words of the Declaration of Independence, which call upon us to look to our Creator – the source of our unalienable rights – for the standard by which we can be self governing and thereby most free.

Will we keep the Republic – will we keep the Constitution? Now that is a question for today!

We will if we learn and study its principles. For it is written,

Seek and ye shall find.”v

We will if we apply and enforce them. For it is written,

...If you believe all these things see that ye do them.”vi

We will if we develop the courage and discipline to govern ourselves by a celestial standard. For it is written of peace, goodness, gentleness,

“…against such there IS no law.”vii

And in addition, will we stand together above the artificial divisions of rich vs. poor, business vs. labor, right vs. left, of party, race or difference of religious belief against

the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places[?]”viii

Will we stand together as Americans as our Republic desperately struggles and cries out for our aid.

WHO will ANSWER the CALL?

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United STATES of America."

Ultimately that which is written in our hearts is what will determine our benefit or detriment and that of our Republic. The good news is that the choice is ours. The bad news is that the choice is ours.

Whatever the outcome, we will be the doers of it. We can have powers exercised upon us, or we can act with that power which is inherent in us to deserve and preserve that liberty which our Founding Fathers, with the blessing of Divine Providence, bequeathed to We the People.

The Liberty Bell at Independence Hall has these words from Leviticus cast UPON it.

PROCLAIM LIBERTY throughout the all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.”

The bells AGAIN toll the invitation to engage in the animating cause of Liberty.

Will YOU answer the call?

Our REPUBLIC is built on a strong foundation.

Will YOU stand on the principles our forefathers bled for?

These sacrificing forefathers acknowledged the interposition of the Divine Hand in the birth of the Republic.

Will YOU – BEND-the-KNEE to supplicate for its restoration?

The world awaits our response – more importantly – our CHILDREN must know what we CHOOSE to bequeath to THEM!

So… Let the Bells of Liberty toll;

So… Let our Resolve be DONE!

HE IS RISEN!

HE is risen!

He IS risen!

He is RISEN!

It is true that we are familiar with these words, particularly as the culmination of the Passover season. There is power in this truth that encompasses but also surpasses mortal understanding. Nevertheless they are proposed here as three distinct declarations.

HE is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Jehovah, the God of the Old Testament – the Creator of heaven and earth and the sacrificial Lamb of the Passover – the Savior of the world. HE is He who has paid the ultimate price of freedom, blood, so that every inhabitant of the earth who has ever lived, does live or ever will live can be free of chains that cannot be undone by mortal means – the chains of sin and death. HE is He of whom every prophet of scripture has foreseen and testified of, and as if that were not enough, in every instance where God the Father himself has spoken to man, He has also testified of Jesus Christ, His only Begotten Son. HE is risen!

He IS – that He is! When Moses asked God for His name, that he may answer the children of Israel when they asked for it, “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” [Exodus 3:14] In another forum, the Jews asked Christ if he has seen Abraham, and he responded, “Before Abraham was, I am.” [John 8:58 – emphasis added]. Abraham was past tense, I AM, is present tense. He is Present yesterday, present today, present tomorrow! He IS risen!

He is RISEN! And in doing so, he accomplished his mission – and the law. Our existence is fragile, our time here is temporary. We are indeed, travelers out of time and place. That we hold to be significant today may be of little value tomorrow. We grow out of old things and into new, and in turn, those new things again become old. The very seasons testify to us that everything we see and experience will one day waste away. The tender green leaves of spring eventually fall and shrivel before the onset of winter. It is all temporary and all if it is left behind on our individual trips to the grave. But, we shall rise again, because He is RISEN!
